REFLORA FIELD GUIDES
Compendia for the Curious
A Reflora Field Guide is an invitation to come along. Each Compendium begins with a subject worth wondering about and a place worth exploring. We learn a little before we set out, gather what we may need, and then enter the subject together—looking closely, wandering down interesting paths, stopping when something deserves our attention, and leaving room for discoveries we did not know we were looking for.
Where we go depends entirely upon the question. One Field Guide may take us into the garden, orchard, farmstand, and kitchen; another into anatomy, physiology, and the workings of the human body. We may find ourselves in an herbarium or laboratory, standing in a grocery aisle, opening an old medical text, considering a modern study, examining something under a microscope, preparing something at the kitchen table, or simply noticing what has been in front of us all along.
Along the way, Field Observations invite us to stop and look before rushing to conclusions. Field Notes give us the factual, botanical, nutritional, historical, scientific, or practical knowledge needed to understand what we are encountering.
Dr. Debra’s Observations make room for another kind of knowledge—the things learned through years of clinical practice, growing, shopping, preparing, teaching, reading, making, and paying attention. Tucked throughout are Field Pearls and Kitchen Pearls: small pieces of useful knowledge worth slipping into a pocket and carrying home.
Not every excursion follows the same road. A Compendium on fresh produce will have a very different itinerary from one exploring lymphatics, breast health, botanicals, or the nervous system. The subject determines where we go, what we need to investigate, and which paths are worth following. The Field Guide provides enough structure to keep us oriented without taking away the pleasure of wandering.
Eventually, as with every worthwhile excursion, there is the ride home. Our Field Debriefing gathers what surprised us, what mattered, what deserves remembering, and what we may choose to do with what we have learned.
The purpose of a Reflora Field Guide is not simply to accumulate information. It is to notice more, understand more deeply, and return from the journey carrying something useful.
I am your field guide.
You bring your curiosity.
